Snowmobile may have been found on lake bottom
The Massachusetts Environmental Police may have located a snowmobile reported last winter to have fallen through the ice into Lake Attitash. According to a report in today’s Daily News of Newburyport, an environmental police team used underwater sonar to locate what seems to be a snowmobile on the lake bottom near the center of the lake in about 20 feet of water.
The next step, according to the report, is to send a state police dive team to verify that the identified item is a snowmobile. How the machine will be retrieved from the lake, if it is a snowmobile, has not yet been determined.
Lake resident Michael Bik, who was interviewed for the article, expressed concerns that gasoline and oil could leak from the snowmobile and contaminate lake water.
