May 29 annual meeting hosts 50, including local officials

June 2, 2014 – About 50 people attended the Lake Attitash Association annual meeting, held May 29 at the Merrimac Public Library. Officials attending included Hailey Klein from the office of State Senator Kathleen O’Connor Ives, Amesbury Mayor Ken Gray, Amesbury Public Health Director John Morris, and Merrimac Conservation Commission Chairman Robert Prokop.

During the meeting, Mayor Gray and Health Director Morris announced that the City of Amesbury would take over routine cyanobacteria testing for the lake. This expense had previously been borne by the State of Massachusetts Department of Public Health, but the state discontinued its program at the end of 2013.

Lake Attitash Association President Tod Campbell welcomed those attending and introduced several speakers on the topics of association finances, plans for fighting cyanobacteria and invasive weeds, and homeowner practices that can help protect the lake.
