Kids’ Fishing Derby winners get tackle shop gift certificates

Aidan Smith, age 12, of Merrimac was one of the big winners in the August 9 Kids’ Fishing Derby at Lake Attitash. Smith won longest fish (21 inch pickerel) and heaviest fish (2-3/4 pound largemouth bass) in the age 12 and under category, taking home two Merrimac Bait & Tackle gift certificates.

Sam Lapointe, age 14 of Amesbury, also scored two gift certificate prizes, but with a single largemouth bass. His fish was the longest and heaviest in the age 13 to 16 category, at 18 inches long and 2-1/2 pounds.

Brothers Hunter and Anthony Graham, ages 13 and 11 of Amesbury, received prizes for their two largemouth bass. Hunter, in the age 13-16 category, brought in a 17 inch, 2-1/4 pound bass. Anthony, in the age 12 and under category, caught a 14-1/2 inch, 1-1/16 pounder.

Nathan Hart, age 10 of Boxford, just missed the official winners’ circle, but entered the only smallmouth bass (9-1/4 inches long, 3/4 pound) and a couple of decent sunfish. He was also the youngest entrant.

All fish were released alive after the weigh-in.
