Attitash illumination and parade set for Sat, Aug 30
The annual Lake Attitash Grand Illumination and Boat Parade is scheduled this year for Saturday, August 30. Residents and boaters are encouraged to decorate their houses with lights and to participate in the boat parade.
If Saturday afternoon is rainy or stormy, the illumination and parade will be held on Sunday, August 31, instead.
Both decorated and undecorated boats are welcome to join the parade, which starts at 6:30 pm on the lake in front of the state boat ramp in Merrimac. For safety, all boats should have lights, life jackets and all other equipment required by law.
The Grand Illumination on Lake Attitash has been held every year on Labor Day weekend since 1994. The traditional celebration of lights was started in the early 1900s and revived in 1994 by the Lake Attitash Association.
